There are very few places where you have the ability to crack open a 1000+whp car to its full potential safely. The geniuses over at Shift S3ctor put together a great event to invite all high horsepower cars to duke it out in a very safe environment. The venue for this event takes place at the Coalinga Airport, which is located in Coalinga, CA. Utilizing the airport space; they have been able to safely mark off ½ mile for racing purposes! This stretch of road allows some cars to reach an excess of 200+ mph.
We had the perfect project to bring out to this no holds bar event, and that was Project King Kong Porsche 996 Turbo. What once started as a stock 996TT, this sports car has transformed into one of the fastest 2wd Porsche Turbo’s in the world. This car has undergone much research & development over the past few years in the quest of making more horsepower. At its current state, we have been able to extract 1,300whp, which is being transferred to only 2 tires. After some last minute tuning to the new engine setup, we were on our way to Shift S3ctor!
Once we arrived to Coalinga Airport, we were welcomed by over 100 500-1400whp cars. There were a wide variety of cars from Domestic, European, and Asian vehicles all modified through the roof. While King Kong was being unloaded from the trailer, all you could smell was ethanol and race fuel burning. After performing some warm up drives around the paddock, we headed towards the starting grid. 2 cars at a time were starting to line up to duke it out at on the half-mile strip. We were up next to do our first run down the airstrip, and headed towards the starting grid. After we were given the green light we started accelerating and spinning the tires as soon as we hit boost. We continued to spin the rear tires all the way through 5th gear, where were able to trap a best time of 198mph in the ½.
We had a very successful weekend with King Kong, and were already brainstorming ideas on how to make it faster. We would like to thank the crew at Shift S3ctor for organizing such a safe and great event. We look forward to being a part of the next one!
